Night of the fires


Just as the New Year began, terrorists staged coordinated attacks in three southern provinces. They burnt 20 schools. At the same time, a group of raiders attacked a Thai army base, murdered four soldiers and stole weapons.

The attacks kicked off another round of mistrust and misunderstandings between the mostly Muslim southerners close to Malaysia and the Thai government. Martial law was declared, but the real danger is that international terrorists of Jemaah Islamiyah will exploit the problem... more ->
